The Hormozi Diet For Peak Performance
Is this the way entrepreneurs and high performers should eat?
Alex Hormozi eats the same things for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every single day.
By following this diet, while never skipping dessert, he’s been able to stay shredded for years.
Is this the ideal diet for entrepreneurs performing at their best?
Let’s break it down and see what the verdict on the Hormozi Diet is.
The Good - Eat For Efficiency
Managing a business or multiple businesses takes up an insane amount of cognitive load and requires non-stop decision making all day long. There’s no one telling you when to work or take a break, what to prioritize, what to say yes or no to, any of it.
It’s all on your shoulders to decide.
And that’s mentally very draining.
The last thing I want to do is decide on groceries, what to cook, or even what to watch or read at the end of the day. So the biggest benefit I see from the Hormozi diet is the minimal decisions that Alex has to make for food. It’s the same with his outfit of choice, which is also a thing that Zuck and many other entrepreneurs embrace in minimalist wardrobes.
When you already know exactly what to eat to fuel yourself and you also don’t keep junk or other options lying around the house, it’s much easier to eat for utility instead of pleasure.
But is this routine, monotone diet the way to nourish yourself for high performance?
The Bad - Nutrient Variety and Density
Alex says that he takes a multivitamin and he doesn’t die, which isn’t the same as being in flow and performing at your very best.
The biggest thing lacking from this bland diet is the variety of nutrients needed for optimal performance - both mentally and physically. And a multivitamin doesn’t cut it there. It would even be better if he had said he drinks a greens powder over a multivitamin.
I know Alex’s workout is for the love of the gym and utility as well and not designed for peak performance but consider your own situation and whether you are trying to perform better physically or if you’re still starting out on your entrepreneurial journey and need as much of an edge as you can get, there’s a lot missing in terms of nutrition to fuel brain performance.
At the same time, the simplicity of this diet may work better than most choices people usually make for their diets that slow them down mentally throughout the day by spiking and crashing blood sugar levels. The Hormozi Diet is almost entirely protein until dinner time.
The Redeeming Quality - Protein and Satiety
Filling up on protein first is a great idea no matter what style of diet your are following. The protein-first approach fills you up and is much less likely to be processed junk food so it is great for reducing hunger and cravings while minimizing concerns over making the wrong choices for foods as well.
If more people ate this way they would feel more satisfied with their diet even if they were reducing total calories.
Should You Follow the Hormozi Diet?
People just love to follow trendy diets and then jump ship when something newer or cooler comes out. But nutrition choices should work for you long-term, so consider that and how the Hormozi Diet would fit your lifestyle and needs.
Some people need more variety, and if this is you, put together a broader plan than just the same three meals for every day. Most of us also need a broader range of nutrients from whole food sources to feel our best and perform out best consistently.
So if you’re working hard on building a business and need all the mental resources you can muster, a simple diet will probably help you out a lot if you don’t have someone cooking for you but make sure it’s also built upon solid nutritional foundations.
